Feed Your City Organization

Feed Your City Not-For-Profit Organization Inc. launched a nation-wide program for local food, rare seed propagation and arts/agriculture curriculum on September 28th, 2009 at Queens Park.

Mission

  • Feed Your City: Food Where the People Are
  • Preserve Heirloom Non-Genetically Modified seeds from extinction
  • Seed to Feed Pyramids, and other urban agricultural designs.
  • To be the paramount food production system in all nations, cities, towns, villages and homes
  • Prevent malnutrition and starvation through Green Infrastructure

FYC is a collaboration of animated urban farmers, performance artists, industrial designers, underground social activists and architects.  What originally started as an experimental concept design under the aspect of food miles and food poverty, has shifted towards the relevant issue of rapid urbanization and community health.  We incorporated as a not-for-profit in September 24th, 2010, we were approved for charitable status on February 12, 2010, but have remained a Not-For-Profit.  Please drop us an email about how you can get involved!

Collaborative engagement with three of the top Universities; Ryerson, University of Toronto, and Guelph, along with research and innovation programs, OCE, Vineland, CONNI has FYC developing the lastest and most advanced, superlight weight Roof top Produce and Medicine Greenhouse systems.

The first step is to secure rooftop space for propogation of heirloom seeds available “Where the people are”.

Starting January 30, 2010, the City of Toronto mandated that new building permits over 2000 sq ft in the downtown must have a green roof.  But there is 5,000 Hectares of viable roof top space in the Greater City of Toronto.   How many tons of food can we grow with all these roofs?  How many rare varieties will be saved?  How will it help us sustain a natural bee and butterfly population?

Universities are collaborating with Feed Your City Organization to prototype and research our innovative and efficient, inflatable Rooftop Greenhouses for growing local food year round, storm water management, electricity generation, carbon sequestering and heirloom seed propagation.

v    1 Seed /Plant  = 1 meal

v    1 meal = Has Approx. 100 seeds

v    100 seeds grow to feed 100 people for one day or 10,000 seeds

v    10,000 seeds grow to be 100,000lbs of food or 1,000,000 seeds

Our initiatives and our product lines provide solutions for environmental rejuvenation.   With FYC operating from the new Centre for Social Innovation, our network and partnerships are growing exponentially.

Feed Your City’s integrated design will fill out a depleted global seed pantry, create massive sources of local food production, jobs, clean the air, generate electricity and contribute to the new foundation of “real” economic growth. Our educational programs take an in depth look at the local food movement and inspire and allow people to grow their food close to home.

Within this Opportunity Package you can participate in seeding and nurturing this valuable NGO.
